Here's an interesting tidbit that came in. For fans of the Pre and late-night shows, NBC talk show host Jimmy Fallon might be good to keep an eye on. He may be the most tech-savvy host yet, whose passions include new gadgets, phones, video games, and using Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and Flickr. This is in addition to a serious of webisodes he created leading up to the show's premiere. In an interview, he implies that he wants to get the guys behind the fancy webOS handset onto his show:
I'm interested in tech, and I'm interested in gadgets. I want tech people to come on my show, whether it's Bill Gates or the guy who designed the new Palm Pre, to talk about new inventions.
Although there is no "one guy" who designed the Pre, states Wireless and Mobile News, a number of candidates come to mind that could generate some buzz for the handset. Matias Duarte, director of human interface and UI for Palm, gave a good demo of the interface at CES and could be a good candidate for the show. Other possibilities would be Roger McNamee, an outspoken supporter and investor for the company, or head of development Jon Rubenstein, formerly with Apple.
The high-tech guests have already started to arrive. On March 9, Engadget editor in chief Joshua Topolski will be appearing on the show. Could he plug the much-anticipated Pre during his time there? Guess we'll have to stay tuned.
So who do you think should represent Palm in the event of a show appearance? Palm has already strategically marketed the handset, including being handled by celebrities at the IFC Independent Spirit Awards and making an appearance on the Times Square billboard. Precentral states, "it would be foolish to pass up an opportunity to score a Late Night gig with techno-celeb Jimmy Fallon...Palm would be helping reach out to a youthful market and claiming some free PR at the same time".
